View Full Version : Eating Dog!!

Sky News have twice run a story on Filipino's eating dog meat, and the conditions in which the animals are kept.

It was only back in the 80's that Europe were carting sheep, pigs, cows, etc, for 24hrs, no water, cramped conditions, just for business. With some turning up dead. It still happens in Europe today, so we should keep our noses out of other people's affairs until we get our own house in order.

...and the argument that you don't eat pets just doesn't stick, as many people keep pigs, etc, and I bet the 'do-gooders' eat bacon sandwiches!! :-[

I'd rather eat dog than McDonalds ;D

Different cultures, and as long as nothing goes to waste, who cares.

I'm a professional gambler on the horses (www.win2win.co.uk), and in the UK we don't eat them (although some that run need eating!! ;)), but the rest of Europe enjoy a good much. Don't bother me though.

Although Filipino s often had dog for pollutan during drinking sessions back in the 70`s and 80`s it is no longer a common practice..
During one such session,I had a whole bowl of the stuff thinking it was pork..
It was so nice,I asked for seconds. Turned out that it was a local mutt that had been hit by a jeep.
"Aso" would never have been served up as a family meal..
Purely as an accompliment for Ginebra san miguel..
woof woof.

Dog, Cat, Pig, Cow, who cares? Its all meat, all animals are edible, why do we have this notion that its so wrong and discusting here? Maybe because Dogs tend to be apart of the family, I dont know.
My brother-in-law asked me if I had tried Dog meat once, he said it warms the stomach.
I didn't eat it but I dont think its something I would run away from if offered.
I dont know wether or not its true but I hear its illegal in the Phils now...

Guinea pig?
Rat?
Pigeon?
Mongoose?
Beetles?
Sparrows?
Ants?

All eaten in certain countries, and accepted as normal. I've no issues with people eating dog, or any other animal, but I DO have issues with animal cruelty. The way Filipinos treat their 'pets' is abominable :cwm23:

I've seen dogs and cats with no fur, black and red with mange, oozing liquid from every orifice, shaking with fear and hunger, yet walking in and out of their 'owners' house as a family pet.

I've seen dogs dieing with broken bones, with children still playing with them and laughing as the poor animal screams with pain, parents looking on smiling at their kiddies antics.

I've seen a dog with a broken and trashed leg hanging on a thread of gristle, freshly run over, while the owner takes no notice at all, and laughs hysterically at my wifes suggestion they might take it to a vet: "Bwaahaaha, it's only a dog"

In Cavite our neighbour tossed their litter of week old kittens over the fence to our dogs, one by one, to see our dogs eat them, laughing uproariously at each death. Luckily I wasn't there to see it, else I'd still be in jail now.

You can judge the level of civilisation in a country by the way it treats its animals.

What you say is true. Thought about this many times.
I suppose though that when human life is so cheap in R.P how much cheaper is that of a financially unproductive dog? or cat?

I was once nearly ready to invest P25,000 in a small business with my sister in laws husband,a local chinoy that was pretty business savvy. The business model was buying fireworks from manila for New year and was sound.
We were due to clinch the deal over a few SMB`s when my mother in laws small black cat walked in..
I could not believe my eyes as he grabbed the cat by the neck and wacked it on the head with an empty beer bottle. The cat was obviously badly stunned and in a bad way.
I left him more than a little confused that evening after he heared my views on his cowardly actions and why he could forget the P25,000 investment.
Ill never forget his face..Stunned was not the word.
The cat was fine.

My wife told me about her dog when she was small, it came home with a leg missing, they assumed that someone had hacked it off for a meal.

Anyway her dad was so distressed for the dog that he whacked it over the head a few times and left it for dead.

A couple of hours later the dog was up and hopping around and lived for for another 8 months. His leg had healed but unfortunately the whacks on the head got him in the end.

This topic reminds me when I was an innocent kid, mind you I tried to eat dog, snake and horse.

Can't remember whats the dog and snake taste like but the locals said, ''just eat it and imagine that its chicken'' while the meat of the poor horse was taste bland bit tough and chewy though.

Snake is disgusting! I had to eat that in China to avoid insulting my hosts... chewy... lots of small bones... And wash it down with snake's blood... All that after I'd told them I was a vegetarian! I was so ill the next day - but that might have been a result of copious amounts of Mao Tai to get rid of the taste and memory :)

Rampant eating of dogs is or will be of the past in the Philippines . There is now a law that prohibits eating of dogs.. As of today more and more Filipinos avoid eating them . Eating of these poor animals have been traditional and a new generation of Filipinos have been or already has discarded these practices. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/Doh.gif

This was such a stupid law to pass IMHO style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif . and only because of british tabloid pressure along with silly adds in national newspapers from do gooding spoilt poodle grooming nutters.
It may well seem like an over the top exotic dish to certain dog loving westerners but in the R.P it is a tragic loss to SMB/Ginebra swilling Filipino`s and a pollutan that will never be equalled (in my lifetime).. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bigcry.gif

Stupid???? There is no such pressure from outsiders!! Habits of people or should I say traditions do change for the better and I could say Filipinos are becoming animal lovers . Why is there a shortage of polutan in the Philippines that you cant bear not to eat these poor dogs along with your SMB???

Iam glad there is such a law passed and not because of the whim of animal lovers. I think they should arrest people caught eating dogs. Well i I guesss some people don't just don't learn huh?? I think a stiffer law should be passed regarding these poor animals to protect them from uncaring people who just regard them as pulutan. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif

Its the living street dogs that I pity a little more then the odd polutan dish from a roadkill or a cut throat now and again..
I do not like cruelty in any form or to an animal but if it is killed humanly then I cannot see the problem with eating it.
ITS ONLY A DOG!!

When I was there last year I had to order a 500 gallon water tank from a chinese dealer direct from the factory.
I was taken in to see my tank being made but couldn`t stay more than a minute because my ear drums were pounding and hurting with the noise of around 30 men whacking stainless steel with hammers and machines.
None of them were wearing ear defenders and worst of all there were 2 children approx 3/4 years old playing on the floor with toy cars.
I feel bad for paying for the tank now but its done and thats that..

Dont talk to me about your pity for a few dead dogs..My sympathy for this sort of thing was muted years and years ago. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cwm23.gif

Have you seen how chickens are raised and pigs(slaugtered, murdered ,culled) wholesale in civilised countries like Britain..
They look so clean and fresh wrapped up in safeways and Tescos cellophane ready for our Sunday lunches .
The British public have all got an idea what goes on but as they need this product to eat they convieniently put it to the back of their minds, shove it in the oven and then point their guilty fingers at the wicked asians after reading a Sunday tabloid.
Talk about hypocrisy.

It seems that some people are out of touch with reality. I know for sure that eating dogs in some rural areas are still being done but not because of any shortage of food or anything. Life in the Philippines is not so bad compared to other third world country where they have to resort to eating barks of trees. I dont know where you've been living but dogs are treated as "PETS" . I know we do in our place I don't know with some people. And onething more .. I think dogs are more intelligent than some people who just think of them as food to fill their stomach during drinking session.

It has been proven now and again that dogs have contributed greatly with rehabilitation of people who are sick, blind and even those who are in jail.To think that a mere dumb dog can do all these things?? How can you bear to eat a dog that lives with you, sleeps in your house, and maybe protect you from danger????

Well if u skewer them and hold them over some hotcoals until they hiss and pop and the skin goes crispy they are cooked. There are 2 nuggets of meat where the back legs are which takes great (bit like tasty chicken - but then chicken tastes like everything) and the kin isnt bad either as long as its crispy, after that there no point cos what little is left is inedible. Try it sometime when you got the bbq going with a little soy sauce, rice or in a sinigang.

Stick to chicken.
You can get infected with tapeworms by eating mice that are carrying the tapeworm larvae.
Inside your stomach the larvae mature and grow into a tapeworm.
Pieces of the tapeworm are shed when you have a good clear out and each tapeworm segment contains thousands of eggs...:yikes:
Listen to me..I wont steer you wrong!! ;)

Yes, as long as the mouse is well cooked it should be ok. I did see the program about the guy who deliberately ate a tapeworm just to see how it affected him. Apart the odd 'strange' feeling he survived it pretty well. For those that didn't see it, he crapped it out and stretched the damn thing out. It was just shy of 7ft long. YIKES !!!!!!!!!

tapeworm are harmless.

the life cycle is pretty much specific to a certain host.and can be 'cured' by a simple tablet. if you get a beef tapeworm (like the 7ft one) treat it like a pet cuz it can't infect you.

Any thing growing inside of me thats 7ft long and isnt part of me isnt gonna get treated like a PET !!!!!!!!!

Anyone know that song 'there was an old woman who swallowed a fly da da di daaaa she swallowed a fly' lol

Guess by the end of the rhyme there was no room for tapeworm.
