Flying from Nice to Manila last July 23,2006 I learned that I can choose the seats if I dont like the ones they gave me when we bought our tickets.

We took Emirates and I logged in to its Website and voila, I choose the seats I want, by filling up the box for (booking reference number, surname of the passenger, flight number and departure airport). But of course, it depends if there are seats available, still.

On August 13, I will be choosing again our seats. The website said it can be done 12 hours before the flight.

Some bookings do not have reference booking numbers if tickets bought from an agency office. My friend, got only a letter from the agency that she paid the ticket, NO BOOKING REFERENCE and I cannot have her seats next to us. She has to be early at the airport to get the seats available next to us (which I provide for her( what seat number)to tell the flight attendant).

This is convenient, because there's no need to rush to the airport just to check in early. An hour before the flight is enough. We already got the seats confirmed via the internet, and we just checked in our luggages to the flight attendant when we arrived at the airport.

You may try it to your airline.

Some good tips there Francesca.

We used the online checkin with KLM to Hong Kong last year, however, it seems everyone else on the flight had the same idea, and by the time I reserved the seats, they were all gone - this was more than 24 hours before the flight.

You will know the ones to avoid... and the tips for a good choice.

Hi francesca,

I checked in online and chose my seats with KLM both times I have flown to Manila. It also means you don't have to arrive at the airport until 40 minutes before the flight time instead of 2 hours.

Iain.

Iaian, its all depends now to the present situation at airports. I like the 4O minutes alloted time, but with the craziness at the airport these days, better to take a two hour allowance before the departure.
At NAIA, its ten stops, before a passenger can get to the gate to board the plane! :NoNo:
