COTABATO CITY—At least six persons, including an Army bomb expert and a police officer, were injured in separate explosions here and in Kidapawan City in North Cotabato yesterday, authorities said.

Supt. Peraco Makakua, Cotabato City police chief, said two unidentified motorcycle-riding men tossed a hand grenade at the main gate of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao regional office here about 1:35 p.m.

Makakua said the blast injured two members of the Regional Security Force (RSF) and a policeman manning the gate.

Senior Insp. Samson Obatay, Cotabato City police spokesperson, identified the wounded as Manny Mayo and Ampal Baya, both of the RSF, and PO1 Mario Langiles.

Obatay said ARMM Gov. Zaldy Ampatuan was not in the compound when the blast occurred.

Makakua said it was an apparent terror attack carried out by the Abu Sofia, a group allied with the Abu Sayyaf.

He said the attack could be a diversionary tactic as authorities pounded Abu Sayyaf positions in Sulu.

In Kidapawan City, a member of the Army’s explosive ordnance team and two civilians were injured in two explosions about 30 minutes apart, Chief Insp. Leo Alejo, city police director, said.

Alejo said the first explosion occurred in front of the AJ Hi-Time Hotel on JP Laurel Street about 11:15 a.m.

Alejo said later, another bomb was found in a parked vehicle outside Sheer Marketing on Quezon Boulevard.
