Hi all. First of all, I'd like to share some good news.
I got married recently in Quezon City and we got the spouse visa 2 weeks after applying.... no interview required! We are both so happy!!!
Can anyone advise me of the best (and cheapest) way of arranging a 1 way ticket to either Glasgow or Edinburgh as it seems impossible to do it from this end.
Hope you can help, many thanks, Tommy (+ Lyn!)

Emirates is cheapest at the moment, not many seats left with Xmas coming up. Still some on KLM & Lufthansa........also Cathay Pacific if you go via HK

:Erm: You can't usually order an air ticket in the UK, for someone in the Philippines to use, as security requires the purchaser to be there.

Oasishongkong fly between Gatwick & HK. Return tickets can cost £261 (inc taxes) - I got a pair for November :-). I'll let you know what the airline is like.
Flight to HK from Manila shouldn't cost much either.

Although I've never tried it, I think its just credit card transactions that work that way.
Obviously if you walk into a travel agent (like PIC) they don't ask for ID if you pay cash. :Erm:

He never said 'cash', and the mention of e-ticket suggested CC used.

I am a bit worried now as I did indeed pay by cc. PIC who arranged the flight assured me cc wouldn't be required in Manila. I just hope that is the case.

Never believe Phil folk selling things :xxgrinning--00xx3:
You need to speak to the airline, most require the CC holder to be there.....otherwise anyone can order online with a CC that isn't there's, as well as it being a security risk.

As I said, it does depend on the airline. You can't do that with BA, SIA, etc, which is why you should check with the airline, it'll save you & you're fiancee additional worry.

:xxanimal-smiley-085 take a look at the e-ticket. On a BA e-ticket the credit card details are included.
I've got to say I doubt if anyone checks this sort of thing :Help1:

In addition to that, she can actually do the online check-in 30hrs to 1 hr from the time of departure and choose the seat she likes and less hassles for her in the airport. :xxgrinning--00xx3:

I have never been asked for my CC when using an eticket, but with BA i sometimes use my card to use the fast checkin machines.
But Admin is right to point out that an Airline could ask for further ID which might cause problems.

I think we've discussed this before, but let me tell you about what happened to Elsa. When she got her visa, I arranged to meet her in Hong Kong, so I booked a one-way with Cathay for her from Manila to Hong Kong. Normally, like Keith said, the airline would require the card and cardholder to be present at check in, but Cathay allow this to be bypassed if you can show your credit card to the Cathay airline office in Manchester or Heathrow Airport. This I did when I departed for Hong Kong the day before. The Cathay London office will then message Cathay check-in at Manila airport to confirm flight and allow passenger to board without the need for further checks.
Another tip I can offer when booking one-way e-tickets, try to get the country of issue to Philippines, not UK (as I did with Cathay). This saves your wife/fiancee from having to pay the dreaded departure tax at Manila airport.

Yep, you're right as i did pay Php1,620 for the Travel Tax last time as my ticket booked in UK.

I booked my wife's flight with KLM online with my credit card and emailed the e-ticket to her so she could just print it off. The only problem was that on the KLM (Manila) website, when you change from the default, "return" to "one way", the economy option disappears and you can only have business class at between $2,500 to $3,000, so I had to book return which came in at just over $1,000 - £570.ish on my credit card. I could have chosen another airline of course, but I wanted her to fly to Birmingham because it's only 20 minutes from my house and it makes things so much easier.
By the way, is it now possible to do the online check-in when flying from NAIA? I told my wife I didn't think you could do it there.
Iain.

Just letting the fiancee purchase the ticket her end with cash is a much easier option, saves all this potential hassle.

It cost me £1200 for Daryl Lynns one way ticket with Cathay. I went out there to bring here back and my return ticket was £605.
I couldn't find anything cheaper, now all I hear is people getting cheap one ways!! Grrr

How handy a thread on the same subject as i am wondering about :-)
I fell into this trap when getting my family to manila for the wedding, I paid for the tickets by CC, and gave photocopies (well scanned color printouts) of the card with an letter explianing why I wasn't there this was enought for the airlines.
Anyway I always fly KLM (just because it _used_ to have best timetable for me), and today Malu's got her spouse visa:Hellooo: , I'm going back out there on sunday returning on the 24th with her.
I found that i can book a one-way ticket with KLM for 40,000 airmiles... and 40(ish) quid in tax.(bit better than the 1000+ they want for a single) But my question is does she need a transit visa? I assume not as it's EU and same carrier... but i was hoping someone that had come via KLM might be able to put my fears to rest.

Please, what is this travel tax? Where and when does it need to be paid? Thanks, Tommy.

If you will get a plane ticket for your wife/fiancee going to uk it would be much better for her to get in the phils so she can't pay any travel tax.
If the ticket was paid for abroad (uk), no Philippine travel tax has been included. She will need to pay the PHP1620.00 at the tourism counter on the day of your departure before proceeding to the check in counter.

OK, thanks. I'll pass this info on to her.
