Me & the wife are off to Davao on the 3rd of October, but we'll still be calling into the forum, as I have to take my trusty laptop to run my other sites.
I haven't been before so really looking forward to it, even if the travelling takes 24hrs.
I'll be trying the local food such as KFC, McDonalds :D
I notice car hire is as expensive as it is in the UK, rip-off buggers! Stiil, I hear taxi hire for the day is around 1000 pesos.
If I like it, we'll be spending more time their, probably during the Winters, as this country is going downhill fast.
A must on the list is Mt Apo, as I've always be fascinated by volacano's, and hopefully I'll get to Iceland & Hawaii one day.
If anyone has any tips, as the wife hasn't been back for 10 years, all excepted. :)

I think the UK is fast going downhill and if you watch the t.v. and see those programmes like "No going back" and a "Year down under" you start to see that other people have their dream of leaving the UK for places that can offer a better life.
When you see the expense of living in the UK accomadation, which is incredibly expensive, General cost of living, council tax, payments for this that and the other which is ripping off the British People its hardly suprising that many people do not think that their quality of life is as good as it could be......but I noted one or two Brits living in Visaya when I visited the Phils but a point to note is......their is not much of chance of Brits obtaining work in the Phils unless they are ex pats and working for organizations that require their skills........if this can be achieved then the quality of Life in the Phils in my view is so much better and housing is so much more easier to obtain at reasonable rental costs or the cost of acquiring land to buy is fairly cheap by our standards.
Considering a move to retire in the Phil is worrth considering and the Philippine Government do offer a visa now for retirement purposes, however I have no doubt it involves you paying them some sort of investiment fee to obtain this stamp in your passport.

This gets discussed plenty of times on my racing forum, and the last vote around 40% will be up and leaving if the chance ever came up.
That does leave 60%, but if 40% of the native UK population vanished in a year the country would be up the backside of a cow :-/
I'll be out of hear for 75% of each year, in a few years once the kids are sorted, hopefully a place in Singapore & Florida (we already have a place in Mindanao, but not safe to be there).

Its a thought Gina and I have already picked out a peice of land at a place called the "The Palisades" in Bacalod City Negros Occidental its around £3000.00 UK for a 200 Square metre area.........its a good idea to buy the land in a gated community first before buiilding a house then when you do come to build you already have the land.
So it looks like Keith and I will be on neighbouring islands in the future.....well whats a few hundred miles....its only a 1 hour flight on Phil Airlines

Just a quickie people.
My friend has just acquired 500 sq metres of land and built a 4 bedroom house, ( Bungalow ), swimming pool and everything, this is in a place called San Juan in La Union.
The whole thing from having nothing to being finished has cost approx £20,000.
If you buy land please, please, please, make sure it is titled.
Also make sure you have access rights.
If it is not titled, it isn't yours, if you don't have access rights, you have a nice house but can't get to it.
Everything is going to be in the wife's name, so be sure.
It is possible to start a corporation and have everything in the corporation name, it's a bit complicated but at least if the relationship go's tits up, it's still yours.
Complicated but possible.
Believe me there is more to buying land and building a house in the Philippines than you would believe, plus you have the backhanders, ( way of life ).
Good luck

Thank you Steve for this excellent peice of information, buying land in the Philippines is something I am considering right now, the title aspect and rights of access aspect is a very good tip, thanks for that, we will certainly remember that in conversations regarding the legalities.
