I'd always been led to believe that TCs from God's Own Country were readily acceptable in the Philippines, but after my experiences in January, my opinion has been modified somewhat... I could not find a bank in Tagibilaran that would change them into pesos - even the same bank I used the year before. Same with the hotel - willing to change in 2005, no longer willing in 2006. This is now a bit of a problem as I am going back on 22nd, and still have a bit of a wad of TCs... Does anyone know of a place in Cebu that will change them? There seems to be a (sort of) AmEx office in Cebu, but I have suspicions, from the title, that it may not be bothered with profitless things like exchanging:

Adventure Int'l Tour- Amex Travel *
G/F South Surface Area
Ayala Centre
Cebu , Philippines 6000

(The asterisk means "Location operating independently under license from American Express")

I really would prefer to take TCs, but if they are going to be a problem, should I cash them in here and take real dollars?

You dont say what currency that your TC were in

I had some Euro TC (from a trip to Europe !!) no one was interested - I did learn that if they had been US Dollar TCs then it would have been much easier

So for all future trips I will transfer cash to my wife's account in PI and we will draw funds as required

I will have some cash - UK notes - to change at airport on arrival

My situation is that I have quite a lot of dollar TCs. I've just rung AmEx in Sheffield, and they are willing to change them into real dollars, one-for-one. I think that is the best solution for my case. The guy I talked to has been to the Philippines a few times - and never takes TCs with him :)

you can also apply for Traveler's check card if you wanted in http://www.thomascook.com/promotions/promotion.asp?page=tc_card&intcmp=tm.m1.20060620.cheque_card_more

no need to go to the bank for change.... just withdraw in ATM machine
