Ok Tipping in the Philippines has been mentioned....is it normal...yes it is...tipping just about everyone you meet is common.
Tipping in Restaraunts is standard....thee are no hard and fast rules for tipping...but t be quiete honest with you...its highly noticeable that when you arrive in the Philippines..things are so cheap that tipping is not a major financial issue.
When you are helped with your bags out of a taxi..generally I would say between 20 to 50 pesos is appropriate....if you are in a restaraunt..tipping a percentage of the bill can be the way to do it...but I have an even better suggestion for any Western man to avoid all these small tipping difficulties.
Ask your Filipina lady to handle all of this for you...this is the best way..give her all the spending money hahahaha and she will take care of it...all the tipping is done by her.
Yes being that there are no hard and fast rules...and by the way..she will save you money in the long run....tipping is acceptable..alot of jobs in the Philippines relies very much on tipping as a way of income...I would rather tip a porter to hump my bags for me than do it myself...its up to you.
Generally tipping is worth doing..taxi porters...the ones that open the doors for you...and take your bags to the hotel room...porters at the beach who carry your luggage to the room is another one....taxis also...its a personal thing...but its common to do..and i snt going to break your bank.

While I was in Davao the missus told me not to tip anyone, otherwise you could end up with any number of followers.
She wouldn't even let the taxi driver one day get away with 3 peso's....soooo embarrasing.
As for the kids at the airport, tell them to sod off in no uncertain terms, making it clear if they touch your baggage they will get injured. :o
If your going to give abnyone extra money, offer it to the family of your future bride.

Our Forum Administrator has given his rather interesting viewpoint on tipping.....it is simple..tell them all to sod off....there are other ways...like the wave off principle...which is good..just wave your right arm and it basically means sod off.
Just a thought..and they dont get to hear you sod off...or pretend not to speak english and speak German or French to them..as I do....then they just look at you and cant reply..so they leave you alone.
hahahaha try it ...it does work.

I'm sorry to say this, but, my wife is in charge of the money.
We tip everyone that does us a good service.
Think about it, the general tip is 20 peso's, that's 20p people.
If you visit 8 bars and 3 restarants that's £2.20.
If you had a beer in every bar at 50 peso's, ( not normally that expensive ), you've saved approx £1.50 a beer on UK prices, if you have had a meal in each restaurant at approx 600 peso's each, ( again over the top prices ) you will probably have saved £4.00 on each meal, over the day you will have saved £24.00, come on, these people rely on tips, give generously and you will receive generously, even if it's a smile from the waitress, it's worth it, just knowing that you have helped feed her family is reward enough and don't forget, where in the world would you be made more welcome.
The UK, I don't think so.

I tip plenty in the UK if someone has done something good. The guy who put the carpet in this morning I gave an extra £5 to for a quick & good job, I tip the bin men £20 at Xmas, and so on.
Same in the Philippines. I like to show my gratitude.
However, try to take me for a ride and I tend to sue the ass out of people ;D Never lost yet :)
