Alright mate, thanks for yer last reply! I am suposed to be leaving for a Chinese ship next week, I work for BP but they are sending us on the Chinese ships to train up their operators. They do this so they can do business in China, f****** nice of them to offer our services to them on sub-standard ships without asking us what we think! I am a 3rd Engineer, salary is **** compared to other industries especially in the Middle East. Anyway when you come out to the Phils give us a shout could go for a few beers!

We are in the wrong line of work, high responsibilities, company will f*** you over if the s**t hits the fan, no company pension or any other coverplan! I am seriously considering getting myself a shore side job in the Middle East, some fellas get huge wages out there, but have no track record. Anyway you said you are considering some place in Laguna, well there are alot of natural hot springs in Laguna, Sta Rosa is a decent size place with all you need, shopping malls (to keep the wife happy), hospitals and if you have a little nipper there are good schools in the area. There are some good property developers in Sta Rosa who have got their fingers in the pie. Bel-Air is nice and cheap as chips, there is also Crown Asia and Avida, trust me you will get yer little pad with garden easy enough there. Sta Rosa is about a hours drive to Makati and 30 minutes to Tagayaty. Happy hunting chap!

I work 3 months on 2 months off and I am mainly deep sea, so it doesn't really effect them where I stay, I could be saving them a few pennies when they fly me to Singapore. You are right about the non-seafarers, I have heard of some guy getting paid 70K and he pretends to be a seafarer. The US and the UK are tracking down tax evaders in places like the Philippines, but really if you move to France or Spain you will be completely exempt from tax since the EU has increased the tax esemptions to seafarers. You know mate, I f***ing hate Mainla, it is a overcrowded mess and it is only going to get worse. For sure if I settle here it will be somewhere a bit more pleasant than this. It took me 50 minutes to cover a distance of 8 miles. I almost bought a vacant lot in Tagatay for 1m peso's last year!

I heard that the IR were clamping down on offshore workers evading tax. I really don't know what is happening back in the UK with regards to our tax free status as seafares. If you are working more than 6 months of the year out of the country on a sea going vessel how can they tax you, almost all EU countries have inforced a tax free status for seafarers. The American government is currently planning to tax non-resident Americans, I just hope the UK don't click onto that idea. By the way mate, I am currently living in Pasig City in a pleasant condo, if you buy a condo here they could kick you out of your unit after 40 years and knock the building down and generate a new one which they can make more money. Invest in a house and lot!
