Hi, I don't understand 'residence cards in UK'

IF your husband is a European citizen he has an absolute right to live anywhere in the EU, so living in Spain no problem. Gibraltar is another thing. Whilst my wife has 'permanent residencia status' in Spain, which means the Schengen Area, she cannot even go to Gob without obtaining a visa from the British Consulate in Madrid (150 euros, for what used to be, don't know currently, a one day visit).

Spain have signed up to an EU Directive which means that it is, in effect, illegal to keep a family apart. So if your husband lives here you can too. I believe that once you have your residence status you can seek work in Spain, or any other Schengen Area country.

We live in Fuengirola, which is about 70 miles east of Gibraltar and 20 west of Malaga.

Please use my email to reply as I don't visit this site that often now ( johncar61@hotmail.com )

    Regards John

    Hi john,

Thank u so much for the reply. I only saw it just now. Sorry about the msg. It's the shortened version.

We are planning to move to Spain. The residence card that I was talking about was the residence card here in the UK. Can I use it if I will work in Gibraltar together with my husband?

I would like to know the process of getting work permit in Spain and also the process of getting citizenship so we could decide whether moving to Spain is the best option for us rather than stay in the UK. Do u have any idea about these things? Your help is highly highly appreciated. by the way, which part of spain are u now?

    Thank you.

    Regards,
    Eloisa

    Hi, Just saw your message.

I am a little confused "My residence card is valid until 2015" Does this mean your a non-European ? And that you already have a Spanish Residencia?

"My husband is already applying in Gibraltar" Gib is not part of Spain. It is also, like UK, not part of the Schengen Area, Spain is.

"able to apply for Spanish citizenship after 2 years" My wife applied about 30 months ago, we are still waiting for the next part of the process !

    Regards John

    Hi johncar54,

I've been reading your posts about Spain because my husband and I are planning to move to Spain in few months time. I am gathering all the information. .We are currently in the UK, my husband is a Hungarian who's been living in the UK for 5 years now.My residence card is valid until 2015. My husband is already applying in Gibraltar and we would like to stay in Spain so I would be able to apply for Spanish citizenship after 2 years. we couldn't find any reliable source as to what are the processes we need to follow. I've already contacted the Spanish COnsulate in Manchester for visa application and they told me to apply 2 months before we leave the country. I was asking the Spanish consulate in Manchester if I need a visa, they said yes, but they didn't tell me how long it is valid for nor if I am legal as well to work. Do you know how can I apply for residence in Spain and the requirements needed?

    Thank you so much.

    Sincerely yours,

    Eloisa
