Travel Insurance + Health Conditions
For the fit and healthy normal insurance covers you, however if you have any underlying health problems the off-the-shelf policies will not cover you and you may find the policy is voided if you need medical care while away.
I use http://www.flexicover.co.uk which allows you to include the majority of medical conditions at a reasonable cost. A full year for a couple cost me only £150, so I can now go base jumping without a chute

I gave advice in the "What's up Doc?" thread (which could be hard to find, since it is not "sticky") pointing out that the policy may exclude medical expenses that result from a tropical disease where you have not had the recommended vaccinations or taken the recommended medication.

This is for people who live outside UK.
If like me you live in say Spain (probably anywhere in Europe outside UK) flights to the Far East are quite expensive. However, if one books a flight from say a London airport the prices can be much less. The problem then occurs in that most travel insurance will not cover the risk if the flight to London arrives late and you miss your flight to Far East.
The below company does include that risk, and it is the only one I have found which does. I cannot recommend them as so far I have not taken out a policy with them, but when the time comes for my next trip they will be at the top my 'things to do' list.:-

Been quoted around £30 for a fortnight in the Phils with other companies so I might go with Flexicover as everything seems to be covered with the Gold option (quote below)

Do these Travel Insurance policys actual cover Phill? As we all know (or should) Phill often has FCO warnings even if they only cover parts of the country.
Im guessing JamiexxxMaria mentioned tgo the insurers but I would think it wise to check with the insurer that Phill is actually taken into consideration. You dont want to find the insurance voided or restricted due to small print.Oh lord why did you make so many clothes and shoe shops

13th December 2010 #12I think your right, most travel agents or insurance clerks dont know the difference between Manila and Basilan, and I would put a tenner on it that while your policy would be fine for the capital city once you ventured to somewhere a bit hot like cotabato or similar your policy would suddenly become void should an 'incident' ariseas long as you avoid the places you are told to avoid by the FCO.
Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again. But life goes on.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the passion that she shows to the outside world.

13th December 2010 #13Theres Pinas and then theres Pinas,I shouldnt think your average 2 week Boracay insurance would cover a trip further south to some areasThere have been terrorist attacks against civilian targets in Mindanao. There is also criminal activity in Mindanao, including the use of kidnapping and explosions. The most recent was on 21 October 2010 when an explosion on a bus in North Cotabato Province killed ten people and injured thirty others.. Other recent significant explosions include:
On 5 August 2010 at Zamboanga airport an explosion killed two people and injured 24 people including a British national.
On 13 April 2010 in Basilan separate explosions near a school and cathedral in Isabela City killed 14 people and injured 16 others.
On 7 July 2009, in Jolo, an explosion in the main commercial area killed two people and injured at least 17 others.
On 5 June 2009, in Cotabato City, an explosion at a food stand near the Cathedral killed six people and critically injured eight others.
On 3 April 2009, in Isabella City, Basilan, an explosion in the central plaza near a fast food restaurant killed two people and injured eight others.
There are ongoing clashes between the military and insurgent groups in the Sulu archipelago including Basilan, Tawi-Tawi and Jolo.

If you're going to Phils you MUST get written confirmation from the insurance company if you plan to go anywhere 'listed' on the FCO website.
Lowest cost insurance provider is NOT always the optimum choice criteria.

The policy should cover me as I'm not going to Mindanao which is the only place mentioned on the FCO website.
I also noticed that if you use a Philippine airline, the policy might not be covered because of safety issues. I might be going to Palawan after Luzon.....hmmmm.....I better phone them up tomorrow to find out everything to be sure!

I don't think so in the present era you can travel without insurance.
