My dear lady has not been feeling well for over 1 week now, eventualy got her to go to the doctor.
The blood test was positive for Dengue,so she is now in hospital in Tagum City.
Not a good feeling when I am 1000s of miles away in the UK.So its fingers crossed at the moment, and hope she gets better soon.

Just to relieve you a little.
All the hospitals and medical staff in Phils know very well how to manage Dengue Fever.
Try not to worry too much. (easier said than done)
She's in the best place. She will recover very soon.
I got that one time.
I thought It was flu. Kept taking medicine to bring down the fever.
Didn't listen enough to my wife. (you know us men don't like
going to hospital)
If anyone has flu like symptoms in Phils go to the hospital.
Don't take medicines as it will not help dengue fever.
I was only two nights in the hospital then went home.
Family took very good care of me for the next week
(even I felt much better after couple of days !! I just enjoyed
all the attention)
God Bless. Hope she will be home soon.

Oh gosh, sorry to hear about that. I'm sure with rest, lots of liquids, and some medication to bring down the symptoms she'll slowly get better.
My step daughter had a high fever yesterday and sickness, we got a little nervous, but thankfully she's a bit better today.

I've had a few stays in Bicol for a few months at a time, right out in 'the sticks', and on one occasion I came down with one hell of a fever that went on for several days, temp.41.5C.
It really ate me up, and I lost maybe a quarter of my body weight over about 10 days, and could hardly walk for a couple of weeks after.
Never did find out what it was, but never had a days illness out there since (in 20 years), and the mozzies seem to steer well clear of me.
Best wishes to the OP's lady anyway.

Locals have always used the tawa tawa plant which they say helps maintain blood platelet levels during the illness.
If it happened to me I would be drinking this stuff by the gallon.

Very sorry to hear that your partner is so ill and I hope that she makes a very speedy recovery soon. I can empathise with how you must be feeling about the distance between you right now ........ my brother has been in hospital for 7 weeks and although I have been to see him, it was extremely difficult to leave and come back to the UK.

Most members know dengue is a viral infection spread by mosquitoes, confirmed by a blood test, and for which there is no vaccine. Treatment is supportive (bed rest, fluids, paracetamol / acetaminophen), if necessary in hospital. The outlook is usually good, as we hope with Jonnijon's lady.
Herbal remedies such as tawa-tawa might help. Many other chemicals derived from plants have been proved by clinical trials to be effective in treating heart disease, cancer, and malaria.
Let's hope a vaccine and drug of proven effectiveness soon become available for dengue

Hi guys, thanks for all your support. We are a bit worried as her mother died of Dengue.
But I spoke on the phone to her this morning and they have her on a Dextroze drip, and I had to send the money because as usual no more medicine until we get money and you cant leave until you pay.
Hand cuffs and chains next lol lol.

some hospitals dont ask deposits especially if u got recomendation from ur doctor...when my son was admitted to the hospital due to diarhea the hospital provided everything first ( laboratory, medicine etc) then pay all when checked out...and i agree with keith the hospital cannot stop u leaving the hospital even u dont have enough money to pay the bills...all u have to do is sign a promisory note stating u gonna pay later.

I'm sorry to learn about your partner having been laid-low with dengue fever ... and can well understand how stressful
it must be for you feeling so helpless as a result of living so far apart at such a worrying time.
But, thankfully, *the hospital appears to have her illness under control - to the extent that she was in a fit state to communicate with you by telephone yesterday - and, like everyone else here who has responded to *this heartening news, I wish your mahal a speedy recovery.
Please keep us updated on her progress.

Hi Keith and all,I got it wrong about paying and leaving, phone line was very bad plus she could hardly talk at that time
All sorted now.
She is going to continue treatment at home from today as she is now able to walk with assistance. So now its just time and rest to complete the recovery.

Dengue hemorrhagic fever cases are usually secondary infections and I think are the most dangerous..

The kids have just smothered themselves in OFF lotion before school as I make them do everyday..Prevention is better than cure etc.

to put it all in perspective Denge cases are up about 70% this year but even so thats still only 69,000 out of a base population similar to the UK
The Department of Health (DoH) earlier said that since the start of the year, some 69,000 dengue cases had been reported nationwide and that 501 had died from the disease...
and most deaths occure in the very young so very low chance to catch it and then very low mormidatyAbsit invidia

That's great, Jonnijon! It sounds like the worst is over for her.
-

It's true there is less than 1% fatality from dengue fever. The outlook is favourable in previously healthy adults. I've been careful, tactful, and considerate in what I have said because Jonnijon's lady has been ill with this infection. But the outlook in dengue haemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome (usually in those under the age of 15) can be less good. It depends on prevention and intensive supportive treatment of shock. There is so far NO specific antiviral treatment, and NO vaccine. The number of cases are increasing each year in many parts of the world. That's why we need a vaccine and drugs which are proven by clinical trials to be safe and effective.

best thing to do is once fever started wait for a day and if theres fever the next day go to the doctor to have blood check...
-
15th October 2010 #28
Doc.. Would most GP`s or UK hospitals know how to diagnose/look after a patient that just arrived from a Dengue ridden country showing the usual Dengue symptoms?
I should think that this kind of situation can get quite challenging when a patient first walks in complaining only about a 2 day old fever, 5 days after his/her travels.

I hope she gets better.
There is no such anitbiotics for Dengue but they do check your bloods now and then to see how your platelets are doing. Sometime it drops all of a sudden and sometimes not.
But mostly patients are given Vitamin C on their drip which is i think it helps to build up new blood cells in your bone marrow and replace the damage blood cells. They do give vitamin K aswell as it helps stop any internal bleeding.
So its best to take vit c and ferrous sulfate as a supplement everyday. She can buy this over the counter.
Dengue really depends on what stage. Hospital will do all the test and if they say you can go home after a day or so that means you only have the mild ones.I'm a cruel and heartless bitch but I’m damn good at it!
