In thr 60's or 70's think it was 30/40 to the pound
Ive said it before..I`ll say it again.. My first trip in 1980 I got 12.00php to the pound and 8 pesos to the $$...When the Pound hit 30 I was went home and got stuck in and sent shed loads back...To myself..
In hind sight I should have waited but there ya go..I was happy enough at the time and no regrets!

Just for fun fred (and for interest) a pound in 1980 is worth
today about £5.46 (per capita GDP)
That will get you about P65
    In principle it's comparable

The key issue I think, is what can be bought for Eu1.5, $1.7 or 85-90 peso

That then brings us back to the individual economies.

On Costa del Sol. a small draught beer or a really good coffee can easily be found for 1 euro. A reasonable English breakfast, 2 €.

So bring on the 1.50 € to the £

That may be true but an A/C cottage on Sabangs pristine beach on Mindoro was 50 Peso a night.. An SMB was 1.50 cold at a sari sari store!! Value for money wise..This felt like the best place on earth.
