Twitter hand over info re UK posters
http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-...eveal_UK_Users
Apologies for mentioning this again.
On several occasions I have said poster should be aware, when they post incorrect info about people (lies) that they may be subjecting themselves to prosecution. This latest event I believe shows we cannot hope to hide behind a user-name and think we anonymous when posting libelous comments.

john, in theory its possible you can be traced, but using
a program that can change your mac address,
an unsecure wireless network
multi proxies/vpn accounts would virtually make it impossible or very difficult for someone to find you.
for each country you used a server or proxy/ vpn you would probably need to get a court order
and then try and find someone who used a unsecure wireless network !

Well lets put it this way. I have a friend who is a senior police officer on a Protection of Children Squad in Thames Valley. He assures me that they can and do find any pedophile, who has published illegal photos on the we, that they investigate. They of course have access to technology which may be unavailable to us ordinary mortals.

well most pedophiles are probably not aware they can be traced so easily unless they take precautions.
but using a laptop with a program which can change your mac address and driving around until you find an unsecure wifi network or even crack a secure one, it will be near impossible to trace you while you upload pictures and by the time they start to trace you, your well gone..
i watched a program john, cant remember the name of it, it might have been a crimewatch program on the perfect muder, how this guy wanted to shot and kill someone, he planned it really well, picked a remote railway station, phoned for a taxi on a pay as you go mobile, and shot and murdered the taxi driver, no wittnesses, no one saw anything. they caught him in the end, i think becusae they were able to find the mobile number he used to call the taxi company, and from that because he had topped it up by using his credit card
, in the end he admitted it. would probably never have caught him if he used cash

Joe, Its not a very guarded secret that the police and security services have at their disposal technologies and devices which are completely unknown to the general public. Knowing what I know, I would never take a chance that I could get away with it.
Many people, who thought they could commit the perfect crime, have been arrested.
As for the Crimewatch program: I am sure you don't really believe they necessarily gave ALL the info regarding the case you quoted ! Thus, they invited their audience to come a conclusion based on what they decided to release.
Bit like those who would seek to have us believe Princess Diana was killed by the establishment or 9 /11 was a USA government plot.
Some writers, Ludovic Kennedy for one, made a lot of money out of distorting the facts in a cases to 'prove' the impossible.
