UK postal customs
I am purchasing a dress online costing £50 from China. How much does the UK custom charge me for the import VAT or customs duty? Thanks so much

If you order goods other than alcohol, tobacco and perfume/Toilet Water from outside of the EU you MAY need to pay :-
- Customs Duty on goods with a UK GBP total value over £135 (Customs Duty is waived if the amount of duty calculated is £9 or under)
- Import VAT on goods with a value that exceeds £18
Oh, by the way if there is anything to pay to HMRC you will also usually have to pay charge to the carrier for administion in collecting the money.
When duty is payable the actual amount of Customs Duty depends on the type of goods you are buying. There are literally thousand of different 'codes'.
But for items of clothing it's generally 12%
