I don't know heaps about it but heard a little. An old Welsh University. Many universities have some departments that are better than others so it can depend on what subject the student wants to study. But by all accounts, overall, it is a good one. One of the older traditional ones. Evidently Aberystwyth itself is a nice place, however I have never been there myself.

Look it up in the world rankings.....

My ex wife applied there to do an English degree many years ago but decided against it as she didn't want to study English at a Welsh university . So she went to Leicester instead, which is where I met her.

On a global footing, I notice that Ateneo de Manila University is ranked higher though....

Out of interest, there appears to be some good universities in the Philippines so why go to a UK university?

Know a few friends who went there, and they still rave about it, and many of their friends decided to stay on in the area.

People who go there either absolutely love the place or absolutely hate it. Really depends on your own persona.

Just in case your friend is interested in any other Universities, I'd have to mention Cambridge since it's not far from me. It is one of the world's oldest universities and leading academic centres, and a self-governed community of scholars. Cambridge comprises of 31 Colleges and over 150 departments, faculties, schools and other institutions. There are many foreign students, competition is very strong and it's no doubt very expensive too but worth a mention anyway since it is one of the most prestigious in the UK. Here is a link to the website:-

Nice part of the world, sort of. It's been a long time since I went to Aberystwyth, I remember it being rather wet there.

A little thing to bear in mind, Wales is not like a lot of the UK. Some parts are - how can I say it - a little unfriendly to outsiders. Some of it though is political, especially regarding the local language they are battling to preserve, although it's only in the more remote areas that people are that keen on it. An unpopular thing to say to some perhaps, but I don't believe in dressing things up.

To someone from outside the UK, I'd suggest other uni's to study at. A bigger mix of people from different places, and much more likely to find people from their own culture for a bit of social backup if it's ever needed.

Having said that, some of the UK cities......well the crime rate in Aberystwyth will be soooo low.

Sheffield near me has a brilliant reputation for student life. Also there is Huddersfield very near me, Leeds is fantastic.

Hope it's of help - don't be put off Wales, it's just - a bit different
